Research interest  

  • Extraction of sugars and other valuable compounds from lignocellulosic agro-industrial residues, plants and macroalgae by different pre-treatment processes including hydrolysis with acids, alkalis or enzymes, solid-to-liquid extraction, microwave-assisted extraction and hydrothermal processes
  • Development of bioprocesses for the production of chemicals and fuels including ethanol, biojetfuel, xylitol, organic acids, fructooligosaccharides, bioactive compounds, alcoholic beverages, enzymes, and others
  • Fermentation technology: submerged and solid-state fermentation systems; immobilized cell systems
  • Process optimization by using statistical tools (experimental design, response surface methodology)
  • Downstream processes
